most interesting court cases of India


  1. One of the most interesting and controversial case involving human rights was Shah Bano case. It was proceeded during Rajiv Gandhi's government. Shah Bano was divorced by her husband. In muslim community, it is permissible for a man to get divorce by saying 'talaaq' 3 times, without any legal proceeding / settlement.
  2. The Naz Foundation v. Govt. of NCT of Delhi which resulted in the effective legalization of homosexuality in India (pending supreme court appeal).
  3.  Ayodhya dispute : The Allahabad High Court pronounces its verdict on four title suits relating to the Ayodhya dispute on 30 September 2010. Ayodhya land to be divided into 3 parts. 1/3 goes to Ram Lalla represented by Hindu Maha Sabha, 1/3 to Sunni Wakf Board, 1/3 goes to Nirmohi Akhara . 
  4. Murder of jessica lal : On 19 April 2010, the Supreme Court of India approved the sentences and said that The evidence regarding the actual incident, the testimonies of witnesses, the evidence connecting the vehicles and cartridges to the accused — Manu Sharma, as well as his conduct after the incident prove his guilt beyond reasonable doubt. The High Court has analysed all the evidence and arrived at the correct conclusion.
  5. 2G cases:On 2 February 2012 Supreme Court of India delivered judgement on petitions filed by Subramanian Swamy and Centre for Public Interest Litigation (CPIL) which had challenged allotment of 2G licenses granted in 2008. The Supreme Court quashed all 122 spectrum licences granted during the tenure of former communications minister A Raja ..
  6. Death sentence of Dhananjay chaterjee was executed on 14th August 2004.  The case against him was that he hit a girl aged 14 years,brutally on head and while the girl was dying she was raped by the accused
